This webinar will describe the known symptoms of professional burnout, how they differ from depression and how they might manifest in a mental health professional. Specific characteristics of the Pandemic that promote burnout, such as overuse of video conferencing, lack of social connection, use of social distancing and masks during treatment and the stressors of prolonged uncertainty, frequent alarming news and diminished opportunities for personal self-help will be described, along with their contribution to professional burnout. Remedies for burnout will be detailed that have been shown in research to effectively help burnout, along with realigning professionals’ values, empathy, and self-expectation to better fit the Pandemic professional and personal lifestyle.
