Dr. Ashley Smith is a licensed clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience working with anxiety and obsessive compulsive spectrum disorders as well as related conditions like depression, eating disorders, body focused repetitive behavior disorders, and tics. She believes that ideal treatment not only reduces symptoms but also actively promotes happiness, well-being, and flourishing. To pursue those goals, she provides evidence-based treatments based on cognitive behavioral therapy, positive psychology practices, and applied neuroscience. Dr. Smith earned her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2007. As part of that training process, she completed an APA-approved predoctoral internship at Children's Mercy Hospital and Clinics before joining the staff at Omaha Children's Hospital to help develop their dedicated anxiety services. In 2009, she relocated to Kansas City to serve as a senior staff psychologist at the Kansas City Center for Anxiety Treatment before starting a private practice in 2017. In addition to direct clinical work, Dr. Smith has provided supervision, trainings, and consultation for students and other professionals. She has several publications and maintains active involvement in professional organizations like the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. She regularly presents workshops and trainings on local and national levels and has been involved in planning and producing local and national conferences. Dr. Smith is also open about living and learning to thrive with a visual impairment. She blends her professional expertise with personal experiences in her blog, A Blind Quest for Happiness. Within her practice, Dr. Smith strives to provide top-notch care in a collaborative and supportive manner. She is passionate about sharing cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, positive psychology practices, and applied neuroscience. In fact, this passion has driven her efforts to help more people and in novel ways, ultimately leading to the creation of Peak Mind: The Center for Psychological Strength (www.peakmindpsychology.com), which she co-founded in 2019.
