Dr. David J. Ready, is a licensed clinical psychologist, an Assistant Professor Emeritus in the Emory University School of Medicine and has over 40 years of experience as a psychotherapist.
Dr. Ready specializes in evidence-based treatments (EBTs) for patient with OCD and trauma related disorders. These treatments are generally more effective and efficient than traditional talk therapy because they directly target symptoms and provide specific exercises aimed at breaking behavioral patterns that maintain symptoms. Traditional psychotherapy emphases gaining insight. Insight does not necessary lead to symptom reduction. Dr. Ready focuses on changing behavior because only by changing what you do will you be able to change how you feel.
Dr. Ready always starts with a thorough assessment with an emphasis on getting a clear picture of what a patient wants to change. Effective treatment is based on good assessment. This evaluation will include identifying specific treatment goals, determining if there are factors that would be likely to interfere with achieving these goals and arriving at accurate diagnoses. Next, Dr. Ready will provide feedback about what he has learned and, if he feels he can help, provide a clear treatment plan about how to go forward. If Dr. Ready is utilizing an EBT he will provide specific instructions for between sessions homework. Compliance with such homework has been found to be one of the best predictors of treatment outcome. Dr. Ready also provides longer term treatments for the patients who are most likely to benefit from this type of approach.
