Many clinicians treating anxiety and depression hesitate to consider themselves well versed in both recognition/detection of bipolar disorder and recommendations for its treatment. This presentation seeks to share the diagnostic features of the disorder along with how to differentiate it from other common mental health conditions, and to share treatment recommendations. Bipolar disorder prevalence is significant in the population, and the ability to recognize it and treat it appropriately can be lifesaving, considering the high rate of morbidity and suicidality in the bipolar population. Educating our members to recognize this disorder and differentiate it from depression, in particular, can be lifesaving.
