Dr Martinez was honored to join the faculty of the International OCD Foundation’s Behavioral Therapy Training Institute in 2023.
Since 2007, Dr. Martinez has been helping child, teen, & adult patients with anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and OC-related disorders, such as body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), tics/Tourette disorder, health anxiety disorder, and hoarding. Other common comorbid conditions that Dr. Martinez treats regularly include depression, bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), behavior disorders in children and adolescents, and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Parent education and training is always a part of her work with children and adolescents and, oftentimes, working with the loved ones of adult patients is also integral to her treatment approach. Dr. Martinez has created a culture at SOAR that is grounded in science and committed to evidence-based practice. She fosters a team that is oriented around empirically-supported treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and skills training informed by dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). The team at SOAR is currently studying Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT) and looking forward to integrating it into our practice.
Dr. Martinez attended The Ohio State University, where she earned her doctoral degree in clinical child & adolescent psychology. She completed her internship at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. She has trained under, consulted with, and presented alongside some of the foremost OCD and anxiety experts in the world. Dr. Martinez is a regular speaker and presenter at international conferences such as the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) and the Anxiety Depression Association of America (ADAA). Her presentations have covered topics such as parenting children with OCD, the benefits of telehealth for OCD, emerging clinical and medical interventions for OCD, addressing barriers to ERP, clinical ethics, bioethics, and more. Additionally, she is a strong advocate for patients rights, especially educating patients and therapists about patients’ legal right to access in-network insurance benefits with out-of-network specialists (www.soartogether.net/insurance). She is also enthusiastic about mentoring therapists who are interested in specializing in the evidence-based treatment of OCD. Dr. Martinez exudes a passion for her work and dedication to the field of psychology. She is also the loving mother of two daughters and an adventurer at heart, always looking for new places to travel and explore.
